Wasim Akram’s first wife died on October 25th, 2009, at the age of 42 due to multiple organ failure at Apollo Hospital in Chennai.
They had two sons from their marriage of 14 years. Tahmoor and Akbar.

One of the greatest fast bowlers in the history of cricket who scared all the batsmen of the world was crying at the airport because he didn’t have an Indian visa to see his wife’s tragic demise due to multiple orders failure, Huma Akram.

Wasim was in South Africa for the Champions Trophy for the commentary for ESPN and Start Sports, and his wife was in Karachi with their children to see their grandparents. When she returned to Lahore, they all complained of a sore throat. The children soon recovered, but she didn’t. She eventually ended up at a hospital, while Wasim was still not back in Pakistan.

Akram and his family, brother-in-law, Aamir, were traveling to the hospital in Singapore from Lahore on an air ambulance for the treatment of his wife at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. The ambulance halted at the Chennai airport for scheduled refilling. And Akram’s wife Huma was feeling uncomfortable and was in pain, and her eyes were closed in the air ambulance. When the medical professional from Singapore tried to revive Huma, she was unconscious, and Akram was weeping. And people recognized me at the airport.

We didn’t have an Indian visa. We both had Pakistani passports. However, the airport officials and the customs and immigration officials helped Wasim and told him not to worry, we would take care of the visa issue later. They arranged an ambulance, and Huma was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai. She was in the ICU, and after 4 to 5 days, she never came to a conscious state.
It was very difficult to break the news to my kids, who were 7 and 10 years old. My family and friends helped me overcome this situation. This is a heart-touching story about Wasim Akram’s tragic love story about his wifes death in Chennai
